I was guest auctioneer at last night’s charity dinner in aid of Pittenweem Fishermen’s Menorial Association. It was a great night which raised over £600 from the auction alone.
I was delighted to be asked and represent Pittenweem Hub in a community event.
Pittenweem Fishermen’s Memorial Association was established with the objective of raising funds to commission, and erect a permanent memorial, to be sited beside Pittenweem harbour, to commemorate the loss of life in the community from the pursuit of the fishing industry.
“Our aims are simple. In the East Neuk villages there is no visible outdoor recognition of the lives lost, or the hardships endured by the local communities especially in the past. Our proposed memorial will help to rectify this omission, and will have a role to play in making future generations more aware of the dangerous work of the fisherman. We also wish it to convey a sense of quiet reflection and remembrance, for those who took part in “the fishing”, and contributed to the history and heritage of the East Neuk.”
